Pilatesatelier Gent – Moving with purpose. That’s what classical Pilates is all about.

Mat group classes

Mat group classes are a fantastic way to get to know the pilates method!

During these mat group classes we work lying down and occasionally also standing up. We also sometimes use so-called ‘props’, such as weights, a small ball, a power circle, etc. These offer extra challenge or extra support, but above all will give feedback on how you use your body to perform certain exercises.

Below you will find more information about:
– our group classes during the school year;
– the ‘pilates in the garden’ classes during the summer holidays;
– the ‘Kom op tegen Kanker’ (Stand up to Cancer) classes in December.

Note: these group classes are not suitable for pregnant women! From 12-13 weeks of pregnancy, it is best to switch to prenatal classes or prenatal Personal Training.

Mat group classes during the school year

Our regular group classes take place every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (except during school holidays and official public holidays). All evening classes take place within walking distance of our studio (at school De Spiegel, Zwijnaardsesteenweg 250, 9000 Ghent OR International School Ghent, De Pintelaan 258, 9000 Ghent). The class on Wednesday mornings at 9am still takes place in our studio (residence Maple Garden, Zwijnaardse Dries 6, 9000 Ghent) but from September 2025 will switch to the sports hall of Arteveldehogeschool, campus Watersportbaan (Watersportlaan 4, 9000 Ghent). Register for the classes is possible via the online booking system of Momoyoga: www.momoyoga.com/pilatesateliergent. PLEASE NOTE: It is currently not possible to register as a new client in Momoyoga, as almost all classes are fully booked. Would you like to sign up for the mat classes on Tuesdays at 7 PM, or Wednesdays at 9 AM or 7 PM? Send us an email at pilatesateliergent@gmail.com and we will create a Momoyoga account for you!

Note: for these pilates group classes you need your own (pilates) mat. A good pilates mat is thicker than a yoga mat (at least 15mm thick) – this thickness is necessary to avoid pain in your spine during exercises such as Rolling Like A Ball, Open Leg Rocker, etc.

Most group lessons are taught in Dutch. If you don’t understand Dutch, the mat class on Tuesday 7PM with Valerie is the best option for you (in the International School Ghent at the De Pintelaan)! In pilates, the teacher explains every exercise in words, and only rarely shows the exercises on the mat.

Pilates in the garden – our group classes during the summer holidays

During the summer holidays, if the weather is nice, we also organize ‘pilates in the garden’ group classes (‘open level’) in our garden on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:30pm for our existing clients. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram page to know if the class can go ahead due to weather conditions and if there are any last-minute spots available!

Lessons are taught in Dutch. If you don’t understand Dutch, these classes are probably not the best option for you. In pilates, the teacher explains every exercise in words, and only rarely shows the exercises on the mat. So a good comprehension of Dutch is crucial.
