“Pilates works the whole body”
That’s what they say in the Pilates world, and it’s true. There is no such thing as a typical arm exercise in Pilates, or an exercise just for the legs. Every exercise requires control, precision, and alignment of the entire body. You engage every muscle of your body when performing each Pilates exercise correctly.
However, not every exercise is suitable for every body. Pilates is not just running through a set of mat or Reformer exercises. To achieve a change in your posture or movement pattern, we believe that individual attention and a personalised approach are necessary. At Pilatesatelier Gent we look and listen to your body and adapt exercises where needed: we work smaller (or bigger), use so-called ‘props’ (ball, power circle, flexcushion, etc.), break an exercise into different sub-exercises, practice the ‘shape in space’ first on another apparatus in order to learn the right connection, and so on.
We teach you to listen to your body, and help you move efficiently and correctly, both in the studio and beyond.
This way, we can guarantee that your training is effective, especially because you can train at your own level and receive excellent guidance.
Do you want a private or duet session tailored to your needs and wishes? Do you have specific back, neck, or other physical complaints, making a group class too risky for you to start? Or do you want to make faster progress? Then a Personal Training (PT) is recommended – this can be individually or a duet session if you want to bring a friend or family member.
During PT sessions, we work on your specific focus and improvement points. We use the mat, but especially the Reformer, Tower, High Ladder Barrel and/or (Arm) Chair. The springs on some equipment (e.g. Reformer, Tower, Chair) provide both support and resistance, and help you build strength and flexibility. Other equipment (such as the High Ladder Barrel) offers extra challenge or are an ideal step to master an exercise. In any case, working on each piece of equipment is simply challenging and fun!
PLEASE NOTE: currently all time slots with Freya and Valerie for Personal Training are full. They therefore cannot accept new clients until December 2025.
